The module covers the basic concepts and components of information storage and retrieval systems. The modules includes the theories of cataloging and classification systems and also provides an understanding of the development and the use of bibliographic tools which include assigned and derived indexing theories. Other topics include the principle of subject indexing using Congress, Sears List, Medical and Arabic subject headings.
Other topics that will be covered are - controlled vocabulary tools and developing and maintaining of computerized bibliographic databases. Student will also evaluate the bibliographic tools and techniques and be trained to manage cataloging operations in libraries and information centers.
